Why Go to Church?
At Sovereign Way we believe there is no such thing as a lone ranger Christian. The Scriptures exhort all believers to edify other members by practicing the numerous “one-another” statements of the New Testament (e.g., Hebrews 10:24-25). Through the mutual use of spiritual gifts and mutual scriptural accountability, believers can and will grow deeper in their relationship to Jesus Christ. Truly, the exhortations to this kind of ministry can only be fulfilled by believers who have committed themselves to other believers in a specific local church. Also, 1 John 3:14 says, “We know that we have passed from death to life because we love our brothers and sisters. The one who does not love remains in death.” It is dishonest to say you love the people of God when you have no involvement with them. Severing oneself from the local church is a lot more serious than many realize.
What to Expect During Your First Visit?
Visiting a church for the first time can be stressful. Here is some information that you may find helpful. The gathering of believers for worship is primarily meant to glorify God. Secondarily, it is meant to strengthen and edify believers by teaching them the Bible. Since the gospel is proclaimed during every meeting, a worship service is also designed to show those who are lost the way to salvation. Given these purposes for church worship services, you’re going to see people with Bibles open during the sermons. During the music portion of worship, you are going to see people singing songs of praise and adoration to God. We have extra Bibles in the foyer, and we have the song lyrics displayed on a projector. This enables ease of participation. In addition to singing and learning God’s Word together, we pray together and partake of communion (also called the Lord’s Supper). The significance of each is explained every Sunday morning. As far as attire, dress up or dress down. We are not formal or informal with that regard. Just come as you, but we do ask that you come dressed modestly. Last, but certainly not least, come expecting to be changed by the Word of God, for God’s Word always accomplishes it’s goal. While you are here, enjoy coffee, fellowship, friendly people, and most importantly of all, enjoy the greatness of the God we serve.
What if I am Physically Unable to Attend?
If you are physically unable to attend fellowship but want to be a part of a church body we offer some means to help. We understand that life circumstances (health, work, lack of transportation, etc.) can leave some people stranded at home. We have a media ministry that helps get our worship services to those who cannot physically attend. We record every sermon and promptly post it on our web-page. Furthermore, we have a streaming ministry that can stream the entire worship service. Additionally, there are ways to be involved from the distance. We have a prayer ministry where prayer requests are e-mailed out to prayer warriors. You also can contribute financially to the work of Sovereign Way Christian Church. If you lack transportation, we can coordinate someone to give you a ride. Obviously, these tips are for those who cannot physically make it. For those who can physically make it, but are choosing to remain distant, we cannot condone that. It is sin. We exhort you to physically attend and get involved with the body of Christ. Hebrews 10:25 says, “Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.“
